WAX

Face and Body Wax FAQ

Why should I wax?

Waxed hair grows back softer and finer, as opposed to rough stubble that shaving causes. Each time you wax, the hair follicle becomes weakened and may eventually die, resulting in less hair.

Does waxing hurt?

Considering that the hair follicle is being removed, it will hurt. However, each time you wax, the hair follicle will become accustomed, making it a less painful experience. At LJA, we strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible for every one of our clients.

How long does my hair need to be?

We require that you have a minimum of 3-4 weeks of hair growth. The length of your hair should be between 1/8th and 1/4th of an inch, or a "grain of rice" to wax properly. It is important to have enough hair growth to allow the wax to adhere to the hair easily.

How long will the results last?

Results last approximately 3-6 weeks, depending on the area of the body and the adequate home care routine.

Will I be perfectly smooth after my first wax?

Depending on your hairy type Yyu may notice that the area is not as silk smooth as anticipated. This is expected for your first 3-4 appointments because your hair will be at different growth phases. Eventually, the phases will become synced and you will receive the results you've been waiting for!

How often should I wax?

Consistency is key! To reap the best results, we recommend scheduling your following appointment 3-6 weeks after your initial service.

What do I wear to my waxing appointment?

We recommend wearing loose fitted clothing around the area that you are having waxed for maximum comfort. For bikini and Brazilian waxes, we recommend wearing cotton underwear to allow for this area to breathe properly.

What are the aftercare instructions for waxing?

For best results, we recommend the following guidelines.

  • Avoid touching the waxed area and keep clean for 24 hours.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for 48 hours, as your waxed skin is more susceptible to burning.

  • Do not apply artificial tanner on the waxed area for 24 hours.

  • Avoid activities that may cause you to become extremely hot or sweaty for 24 hours including working out, swimming, baths, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, etc.

  • Avoid friction from tight fitting, restrictive clothing for 24 hours as well as materials including spandex, lace, nylon, etc. We recommend loose fitted, cotton clothing to allow the area to breathe.

  • Avoid any form of fragrance on the area for 24 hours including perfume, makeup, deodorant, etc. that may cause irritation.

  • Use a physical or chemical exfoliant on the waxed area after 48 hours to prevent ingrown hairs. Continue exfoliating 2-3 times per week. At Haven Esthetics, we have several products our clients love.

Who should not get waxed?

If you are on or have been on isotretinoin /Accutane within the last year, then you should not be waxed. You must be off this medication for a minimum of one year prior to waxing. The skin is highly sensitive during and after this medication. Waxing will pull on the skin and may cause a wound resulting in permanent scarring.
